Water is a conductor of electricity. When water gets into your phone, the circuit gets complete and electricity flows through areas that weren’t really made for that. This is because the water creates a new electricity path. This, in turn, causes an electric overload and consequently burns out the circuit board. By letting the phone dry on its own, you further increase to the problem as the minerals contained in the water cause corrosion of circuits, coils, and resistors.

Sometimes the water may take time before reaching your phone’s vulnerable points. For this reason, we tend to ignore and think that everything is okay until the situation becomes dire and irreversible. Here are the steps you need to take immediately to save your phone:
⦁ Immediately take it out of the water(obvious)

⦁ Remove the battery if it is removable
⦁ Have the phone in an upright position if you can’t remove the battery
⦁ Then remove the headphones and other accessories connected
⦁ Dry the phone to make it as dry as possible
⦁ Some people advise that you put it in dry uncooked rice to have the rice absorb the moisture. This has given good results but it isn’t a solution when your phone has had water penetrate in the vulnerable, hard to reach areas.
If you feel brave enough, you can connect with your techie side and dismantle the phone. Note that you can only do this if you are good at it, or at least have the courage to do so without causing more harm. After doing that, clean the circuit board. The circuit board is the green board that you will see after dismantling your phone.

These are the Don’ts of a water damaged phone
⦁ Do not dry in a microwave. The microwave will cause an explosion.
⦁ Don’t put your phone in a freezer. Once the ice melts then you are back to square one.
⦁ Don’t use a hairdryer to dry your phone. The heat can increase damage to the already damaged parts.
